We organise a number of short engineering courses. These engineering courses are focused more on productive leisure than on vocational training and development.
Introduction to Go-Karting short engineering course
The Introduction to Go-Karting is a short engineering course offering young people a unique opportunity to learn aspects of the practical skills and theory in mechanical engineering. This can complement their learning within mainstream education – particularly, within the design & materials technology areas. The course introduces young people to the following areas in a team setting: work-based health and safety, 4-stroke combustion engine, carburetion, traction, gearing and driving skills. Young people will spend one full day in a workshop environment re-building a go-kart, followed by a full day at the track, learning driving skills.
- Sessions: 4 (12 hrs)
- Age groups: 13-16 and 16-19
Introduction to Bikeability short course
Bikeability is the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. This short course offers young people a unique opportunity to learn aspects of bike maintenance and bike proficiency to L1. The course introduces young people to the following areas within a team setting: work-based health and safety, bike maintenance and the ability to safely ride a bike in preparation for road biking. There are three Bikeability levels and young people are encouraged and inspired to achieve skills up to level 1, recognizing that there is always more to learn and to enjoy on a bike. Successful young people will be awarded Bikeability badges and a certificate appropriate to the levels achieved.
